Uwe Horstmann, founder of the Berlin-based venture capital firm Project A Ventures, is an expert on the startup scene in Europe and internationally. He invests in early-stage startups and continues to provide support throughout their development. He has been named a Young Leader by the German-American think tank Atlantik Brücke, and as one of Forbes magazine’s “30 Under 30 Europe.”

In 2012 he founded Project A Ventures (PAV) with four partners, and now invests €250 million in European and international startups. The company’s staff of over 100 experts are not only financial investors, but also coaches and an operational support system for their companies. Uwe also works with private equity investors at established companies to support them in their path to digital transformation. He is active in the founding teams and internal management of numerous startups including eDarling, CityDeal/Groupon, and Wimdu.

Prior to founding PAV, Uwe was one of the first employees of Rocket Internet International and Rocket Internet Germany in 2007, serving as managing director until 2012. He studied business administration at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management in Koblenz, Germany. In 2006, Uwe was deployed in the Congo, and is since then passionate about disaster logistics. In his spare time, he is engaged in the use of modern IT in this sector. He speaks German, English, Spanish, and French, and is learning Arabic. He has lived, worked, and studied in Germany, USA, East Africa, Japan, Mexico, North Korea, and Saudi Arabia.

Uwe gives frequent lectures at WHU, ESADE, and St. Gallen and Stanford universities. Moreover, he is a judge in business plan competitions held by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and works as an honorary strategic consultant for Oxfam. Given his wide range of practical experience, eloquence, and humor, Uwe is able to speak to various audiences on the necessity of digitalization.
